Humanness is the new scarcity in 2026

Today, I want to get very practical about one thing shaping all of this: AI.

AI is everywhere now.

That means humanness – your stories, your lived experience, your original perspective – is the new scarcity.​​

Brandwatch’s 2026 report shows people are fed up with low-effort, AI-heavy content, with mentions of “slop” rising over 200% last year and most of that conversation being negative.

The message is clear: your audience can smell “AI for the sake of content” from a mile away.


How to stay human with AI

I wrote a new article, How to Use AI in Marketing Without Going Vanilla, plus a video and worksheet to guide you through it.​​

Inside, I share eight practical moves to use AI as a support tool, not a stand-in for your voice, your strategy or your humanity.​​

  1. Keep at least 80% of your core content human-led – AI can help you brainstorm and tidy, but your key ideas should come from real conversations and experiences.​
  2. Learn a small handful of tools deeply and ignore the rest – spend more time understanding your customer, less time chasing the latest shiny AI feature.​
  3. Use AI to draft, you to refine – your edits, stories and opinions are what make the content unmistakably yours.​​

Pick one recurring marketing task – a weekly post, a newsletter segment, a Reel caption.

Experiment with using AI to support the process, then deliberately add back your stories, your language, your lived experience before you hit publish.
